2nd literature Post

Quote 1: Ishmael Beah(Page 46 Paragraph 2) "I became frustrated with living in fear."
This quote means that Ishmael has been in fear for a really long time. The fear that he was living in must be intense. I am comparing this quote to the question "What are the challenges in America." But since they aren't in America yet the question would be what are the challenges in their home town. The rebels have been attacking every town in the whole area. I would be very tired if I were living in fear for so long. It would be very difficult to not give up and keep trying. Question: Do you think that the rebels will ever stop attacking the villages?

Quote 2: Ishmael Beah(Page 46 Paragraph 4) "For five days,I have walked from dawn to dust, never never coming in contact with any human being." The question I am responding to is "What is characters life/role in their home country." Ishmael's role in his home country is to go to school and get food for his family. But now that the rebels had attacked his home his role is to stay alive and try to avoid rebels. What the rebels are trying to do is to get more soldiers so whenever they catch more civilians they test them and see if they are tough enough for the job. Well my role in my life is to go to school and have good grades to have a good future. My role is not as hard as Ishmael's role he has to avoid chaos at all time. Question: Do you think that him and his travel buddies will split up and some of them will get to be a soldier and run into them?

  1. I can't imagine a challenge in America, that would be greater than the ones that Ishmael faced in his homeland. It would be impossible to not be frustrated.

ANSWER: I think the attacks must end. Someday, maybe not soon, but everything must come to an end someday. But maybe it won't stop until all the villages are gone, or all the rebels are dead.

Ishmael's role in life, was not too much different from ours in the beginning of his life. Since then it has changed drastically. But it will again revert back to being a students life, once he journeys to America.

ANSWER: Yes, I think Ishmael and his buddies will split up.

  2. Response: Since Ishmael is indirectly involved in a war, he seems like his going mad living in fear. He eats the same thing, raw cassava. He also hides in the same place every time. I can see why he is frustrated. He can't even see his family because of the rebels. The rebels always stop him in his tracks.
Answer: Some time soon because the rebels can get tire of attacking the villages. I think the rebels attack for a living. That's how they got their food and valuables. I really don't fore see them stopping the attacks on the on the villagers. It is a way of life.

  3. Quote #1 I think it would be very frusterating and horrible to live in fear for so long.

Question #1 I dont think the rebels will stop attacking until they get what they want or they are completely taken out.

Quote #2 That would be agonizing to not come in contact with anyone in five days!
Question #2 Ithink that it is a possibility and it would be very devistating to go through killing your friends.

  4. I have to say that I feel really bad for Ismael. To have to life with fear everyday, thats not really "living".

Answer: I dont think that the rebels are going to stop attacking the villages. Once "war" starts its very hard to end.
