Post 4 Jem 10-12

Dear Diary, The other day I was walking with scout and I saw Tim Johnson the dog and he looked like he was in pain. He was really far away and I could barely see him. So I told Cal but she didn't believe me until I took her outside and showed her the dog. She told me to go inside and close the door behind me. She went and called up all the neighbors and told them the scenario. She asked me if the Radley's had a phone. But they didn't so she ran across the street and banged on the Radley's front door and tried to warn him. There was no answer. So she just rang back across and called Heck Tate the sheriff in Maycomb. He came and he saw the dog. He didn't want to shoot the dog. Atticus said that he would shoot him. Atticus walked outside into the street. The dog was right in front of the Radley's house at the time. He took his glasses off and shot the dog and the dog just collapsed. The officer said that Atticus was just a little to the right. Atticus said that he always was and his nickname was "One shot Finch." I was in shock my dad was actually pretty cool. I was going to tell my friends but I thought that if he didn't tell me then he did not really think that he would really want anybody to know about that.

Dear Diary, The other day I was walking past Mrs. Dubose house and I said hello being polite and all and she gives me a nasty tone in response. Then she called my dad a nigger lover and that was where she crossed the line. So I took scouts baton and started to hit her bushes rapidly. Then I snapped the baton and accidently threw scout to the ground. I just think the tiger got out of the cage on that. Unfortunately Atticus found out and made me go and apologize. She said as a punishment I would have to read to her for to hours each day for a month. I really did not want to do that but if I didn't Atticus would kill me. So I just had to stick with it. The first day I read to her I only read to her for like 45 minuets and then her alarm sounded and she said that I was free to go. But it seemed like each day it was getting longer and longer. Later I found out that each day she set her alarm back 15 minuets later. The month was completed and I was so exited until she said that she wanted me to read for one more week. I asked Atticus if I still had to read. Of course he said yes. So I read for that week and then I was finished.
